Dave’s Spartan Helmet Tattoo
There are all kinds of mythical tattoos that one can get. Many people decide to get pieces of medieval weapons, armors, shields, and even helmets tattooed onto themselves. A local tattoo parlor recently tattooed my brother Dave with a Spartan helmet tattoo. Our ancestors lived in Sparta and we have always been fascinated with the battle stories of the Spartans.
Dave has been a huge fan of the spartan movies and has seen the movie “300” almost that many times. The helmet is most easily recognized as a Spartan warrior’s head gear so we figured it would be the best thing to tattoo on him. Eventually he’ll get a Spartan shield on his left arm and a Spartan spear on his right arm. He might even tattoo the words “Spartan Soldier” on his stomach. The tattoo will loop up and then back down in a wide arc so that it looks more dramatic.
When we first brought Dave to our local tattoo parlor and asked the tattoo artist to place a Spartan helmet on his chest he said he couldn’t do it. The artist said he would like to try, but he did not really have a good idea of what a Spartan helmet looked like. Dave and I said that we would try to get him a picture of the helmet and come back. We found a great looking Spartan replica helmet at a web site called armor venue and decided to just go ahead and buy it. The helmet was absolutely beautiful and ended up costing us less than one hundred dollars. After using our Discover card to pay for it, we only had to wait a short time before receiving it.
After receiving the Spartan helmet we loaded it up in the car with us and drove back down to the tattoo artist. We showed the artist the helmet and he became really excited about the job. Within a few minutes he had already sketched us out a great looking tattoo template. After thinking it over Dave asked for a temporary helmet tattoo to be placed onto him so that he could decide if it looked good on his chest. We figured we’d look at it for about a six or seven days and if it still looked good we’d come back and get the real thing placed on him.
As you may have guessed, Dave decided to get the helmet tattoo. The spartan helmet tattoo is now permanently placed on his left pectoral muscle. He has received many compliments on the tattoo, even one from our mother. She was against him getting a tattoo so this was really surprising for us.
